Home insurance
Save 15% or 25%
Why pay more than you have to? Home insurance from The Royal Bank of Scotland is the cover you'd expect from a trusted name like us - but with savings of 15-25%.
You could spread your payments
Some home insurance providers charge extra if you want to spread your home insurance premiums over 12 months. We don't. (Subject to eligibility, and only available to customers aged over 18).
Big discounts
As a new home insurance customer you'll get 15% off your first year's premium
- or 25% if you have a Royalties Cheque account.
24-hour emergency helpline
Broken lock? Leaky tap? Smashed window? Our 24-hour household emergency helpline puts you in touch with people who can put it right.
New for old
If you have to make a claim, we'll replace old items with new ones. The only items this doesn't apply to are linen, clothing and bicycles.
Secure home? Save even more
Security-minded? It's easy to reduce your premiums - and it's often as simple as fitting locks, bolts and burglar alarms approved by us.
Accidental damage - cover for your TV and more
We've all had those horrible accidents around the house - like knocking over the television or spilling coffee on a computer. With our home contents insurance, there's built-in cover for accidental damage to TVs, DVD players, hi-fi equipment and home computers. This cover is linked to the amount of your contents insured.
Accidental damage - choose our extra cover
Want extra protection? Take out our extra accidental damage cover, and you won't have to worry about tea on the sofa, cola on the carpet or an accidentally broken antique. This cover is linked to the amount of your contents insured.
£300 cash and £500 garden contents
Some home contents insurance policies have low limits for cash and garden contents. With us, you're covered for up to £300 cash in your home - that includes travellers' cheques and travel tickets. You're also covered for up to £500 of garden contents.
Weddings and Christmas - complimentary increased cover
Let's face it: Christmas and weddings mean you have a lot of extra valuables in your home. But many standard policies don't cover you for this additional value. That's why we add an extra 10% contents cover to insure wedding presents - absolutely free - for four weeks before and after the big event. And there's an extra 10% contents cover for Christmas presents from 1 December to 15 January every year. Conditions apply.
More buildings cover as standard
With buildings insurance from The Royal Bank of Scotland, you're protected against:
- Freezing or bursting of your home's plumbing installation
- Accidental breakages of ceramic sanitary ware and fixed glass
- The cost of alternative accommodation during necessary repairs to your home - which could be up to 20% of the sum insured
All the cover you expect
Of course, we cover the main risks you want to protect your home against, including damage caused by:
- Storm or flood
- Subsidence, heave or landslip
- Theft or attempted theft
- Escape of water or oil
- Fire, smoke, lightning, explosion or earthquake
- Riot or vandalism
- Collision
Cover for garages, fences and more
Don't worry, there's also cover for other parts of your property, including:
- Walls, gates, fences, hedges and footpaths (except in the event of storm or flood damage)
- Garages and outbuildings (for example, sheds)
- Permanent fixtures and fittings (for example, bathroom fittings, kitchen units, fitted wardrobes)
Accidental damage - extra cover
Putting your foot through the ceiling when you're moving boxes in the attic. Drilling into a wall (and out the other side). Spilling paint stripper on your wallpaper. With extra accidental damage cover, it's taken care of.
Transfer fees? We pay up to £25.
Some mortgage lenders charge a fee to switch your buildings insurance. But don't be put off - we pay up to £25 to cover these fees.
Keep your cover up-to-date
And we make sure your policy is in-line with rebuilding costs, based on the original sums insured. The premium at renewal will be calculated on the revised sum insured. Conditions apply.
